Good hygiene is important if you want to maintain a clean appearance and prevent disease. One essential aspect of hygiene is following a few routines for healthy teeth. Taking a few moments each day to clean your mouth will keep your teeth healthy and strong, and it will help to prevent decay and gum disease.

Daily Routine for Healthy Teeth

A good daily routine should include brushing at least twice a day: once in the morning and once before bed. But, it is even better to brush after each meal in order to clean off the food from the meal. When you are brushing, be sure to use good quality toothpaste. Also, it is a good idea to replace your toothbrush at least every four to six months.

Antibacterial mouth wash is another way to maintain healthy teeth. After brushing, swish a little bit of mouthwash around in your mouth for 60 to 90 seconds. Try to swish it between your teeth, covering all parts of your mouth. Spit the mouthwash into the sink, and then rinse your mouth with water.

One of the most important steps to clean your teeth is flossing, and unfortunately many people forget this step. When you eat, small particles of food and bacteria get caught between the teeth. Flossing helps to remove those food particles and cut back on bacteria. Forgetting to floss can lead to gum disease as well as tooth decay. Many people are surprised to hear that it is common for cavities to begin between the teeth, and flossing is an excellent way to decrease that risk.

Other Healthy Teeth Habits

Eating habits also have a big impact on healthy teeth. When a person is eating refined foods and sugars the bacteria is able to grow, because the sugar actually feeds the bacteria. If the bacteria stay in the mouth, it begins to rot away the teeth and the gums become infected. Every time sugar is eaten it may cause the bacteria to grow, so chewing gum or sucking on hard candy can lead to unhealthy teeth.

The last routine for health teeth is to visit the dentist every six months. Regular dentist visits will detect early signs of tooth decay or gum disease, and you can take proactive steps to prevent the condition from getting worse. It is much better to take care of a small cavity before it rots out the entire tooth. If you experience tooth pain between the visits, you can schedule an appointment instead of waiting for your next checkup.

The best way to maintain healthy teeth is to follow a good routine every day. Make it a habit to brush and floss several times a day, and also avoid sugary foods to keep your teeth healthy. These steps will help you to prevent tooth problems, and keep your mouth cavity free.
