Dehydrated skin is a common issue that millions of people, both men and women alike, are dealing with. For some, the skin is naturally dry; however, for others environmental and lifestyle factors impact can cause dehydrated skin. For example, excessive sun bathing, smoking and use of alcohol and drugs take a tremendous toll on the body and skin to the point that we deprive our bodies of the rest it needs in order to rejuvenate. Although these things are enjoyable to us, they may not necessarily be good for our skin, especially the skin on our faces or us.

One of the most sensitive areas of our face is the skin around our eyes. Dry skin around eyes is also one of the first signs of aging and lack of sufficient rest and restoration. What starts out as a few fine lines on the skin will usually turn into dry, wrinkled, dehydrated skin if not treated early on.

Unfortunately there are lots of unsuspecting individuals that will at some point in their lives, have to deal with dry skin around eyes. In an effort to prevent this from becoming as issue, here are some things you can try:

  • Hydration is the key: It is recommended that you keep the area of dry skin around eyes moisturized at all times.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure: As much as we all love the sun, time has proven that too much of it is extremely harsh on our skin.
  • Wear sunglasses whenever you are going to be in direct sunlight: Protect your eye area from the sun at all costs. This could lead to dry skin around your eyes and direct glaze from sun can cause blindness.
  • Remove your eye make-up with a remover that is oil based: Soap and water tend to be rigorous and sometimes irritating. Also low quality cosmetic could be harmful and cause dry skin around eyes.
  • Use an eye cream twice a day: There are lightweight eye creams for daytime use and more heavyweight creams for use in the evening.

Here are a few additional options to relieve dehydrated skin particularly around the eyes:

  • Hydrating eye serums: These are great since they’re made of ingredients that work to replenish oils in the eye area and make the skin firm. They can also be used throughout the day.
  • Tea bags: Place a used, chilled tea bag under both eyes for twenty minutes each day to help with hydration.
  • Castor oil: Apply to your eye area to add hydration.
  • Water: What better way to help replenish dehydrated skin from inside. Drink at least eight 8ounce glasses of water per day. Feel free to drink more if you like.
  • Sleep: Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep daily as our faces will usually show the first signs of sleep deprivation.
  • Reduce or quit smoking: Along with dry skin around eyes and a long list of issues smoking causes, it can be crucial on overall health so put that cigarette down and drink a glass of water!

Try to keep a healthy skin care routine and remember, the key to healthy, hydrated skin is to keep it well moisturized.
