Water regulates the body temperature and removes toxins from our body. It breaks down the food and dissolves amino acids, glucose and minerals. Water is essential to life since it makes up approximately 60% of our body and 70% of our muscle tissue.
Depending on many individual factors, you might need around one gallon (3.78 liter) of water per day. At first, it might seem much but a lot but a lot of water comes from your food. The food usually contains more than half the water we need. Fruit is a great water source since it contains around 80 % water. The amount of water you need differs from person to person. It depends on various factors such as the type of activity you take part in, weather conditions, how much you weigh and how tall you are.
An average person needs to drink around 8 glasses of water every day. It is especially important to drink extra water if you exercise, so the body doesn’t dehydrate. If you feel thirsty it will take around 20 minutes for the liquid to be utilized by the body. This is why it is so important not to wait until you feel thirsty. Water is the best quencher and meal drink. Remember that water contains no calories unlike soft drinks, juice and alcohol.
