Now that summer is basically over, temperatures may fluctuate from one day to another. A 20 degree change from daytime to  nighttime is not uncommon, espceially in the mountain areas. FoodPyramid.com gives you a few tips on how  you can stay in shape throughout the dark and cold months.

Eat fruits and vegetables

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to keep your immune system healthy. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Exercise for 30 minutes everyday

Make sure to exercise 30 minutes every day. Regular exercise makes you stronger, both physically and mentally. Exercise strengthens your immune system and you will also become more alert. A 30 minute walk a day is enough.

Exercise outdoors

Make sure to exercise outdoors because of the sunlight. The sunlight will give you the extra energy needed to combat depression.

Think positive

It’s very important to have a positive attitude if you want to feel good and stay healthy. When you think negative thoughts, you feel down and depressed. But when you focus on happy thoughts you feel happy and this effects your health. When you are happy you boost your immune system. You will also become more motivated to do things that are good for your body, like exercising and eating healthier.

Avoid fast food

Watch out for fast food, sweets and bad fats because it contains no nutrition and you need good nutrition during the cold months to stay healthy.

Choose a balanced diet

Chose a balanced diet with carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Eat a healthy breakfast

Start the day with hot oatmeal. This will make you feel full longer and. It will also keep your body nice and warm.

Eat nutrition rich foods

Make sure to get enough vitamins and minerals from your food.
