2010 Dietary Guidelines and the Food Pyramid

By Senior Editor
Food Pyramid - 5 Mar, 2010

Food guidelines have been around for many years. The latest edition of the Dietary Guidelines dates back to 2005, and it is now time for new guidelines. MyPyramid is a food pyramid that reflects the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines.

The Dietary Guidelines are jointly issued and updated  by the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Health and Human Services. A committee was appointed in 2008 to start the review of the new guidelines. Four out of six meetings have been held and the remaining two will take place during the first half of this year. There will be a release of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines later this year, but the exact date is still unknown. We can however disclose that according to the USDA timetable the 2010 Dietary Guidelines are scheduled to be released in Fall 2010. It will be the seventh edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Lets be open to the new guidelines as they will guide as to a healthier lifestyle.

I teach foreign adults English in a Federally funded program sponsored by Oklahoma City Community College as well as Chickasha Adult Learning. I have noticed that these adults need to learn about American fast foods. Many times they are unhealthy. I teach them English as they learn about good healthy eating! I want to tout your website for more research. How can you rid our foods of high fructose corn syrup as ingredients? There are more products with HFCS than without! These are unhealthy products when they have the HFCS. What can we do to make the public aware of this problem?
