Balancing the Doshas


Below is an overview on how to balancing the Doshas.  By balancing the Doshas your body and mind will become healthier and you will feel much better. By this overall health improvement, it´s even possible for an automatic loss of excessive weight.

Now that you know your Dosha and what it stands for, let´s find out how you can balance your Dosha.

Vata

Pitta

Kapha

  • You need ROUTINES!
  • You need regular habits.
  • Make sure you eat at a certain time.
  • Go to bed before 10 pm and get up at 6 am.
  • Relax your muscles
  • You should avoid coffee and alcohol and too much stimuli late at night
  • Take time to be by yourself
  • Warmth is good for you
  • Warm food and drink is good for you.
  • Good food choices: Vegetables, all kind of oils,sourcream rice, wheat, salt
  • Exercise: You energy level shifts a lot and you don’t have much endurance and need a more calmer form of training.
  • Examples: Yoga, qigong, dancing, workout with light weights, long walks, running, badminton, tennis

  • You need BALANCE!
  • You need to balance your work, food, drinks etc
  • Avoid tough deadlines
  • Take some time off
  • Avoid setting up too high demands
  • Avoid heat. Avoid too much sun and hot emotions. Avoid too much spicy food
  • Good food choices: red products, vegetables, oils, meat, milk, cream, rice, wheat, green leafy vegetables, turmeric, beans, lentil
  • Exercise: You have a strong motivation and you are very competitive and could use a more playful attitude in your workouts. Watch out for not so you don’t push yourself too hard and get injured. Outdoors sports and team sports are preferred.
  • Examples: Swimming, diving, canoeing, American football, base ball, basket ball, ice hockey, skiing, running

  • You need STIMULATION!
  • You need much stimulation and you need to move your body a lot.
  • You need to eat less and exercise more than Vata and Pitta.
  • You need to watch extra over your diet and stop eating heavy and fat food
  • You might need to sleep less
  • You need to be more flexible and not having too many “old habits”
  • Hot light food and hot spicy drinks are good for you
  • Good food choices: spicy herbs, ginger, onion, garlic, radish, beans, lentil, turmeric
  • Exercise: You may find it difficult to get started in some training activity. You really need to move your body because your metabolism is slow. You can easily gain weight if you don’t stay active. You have a stronger body with more endurance than both Vata and Pitta and therefore you can do tougher physical exercises.
  • Examples: Running a marathon, cross-country skiing, triathlon, cycling, weight training, hiking

According to Ayurveda, the general recommendations for all three Doshas are:

  • Don’t eat cold food! You should not eat food directly from the fridge and you should not drink ice cold drinks.
  • Be present while eating
  • Don’t eat snacks between meals
  • Chew your food properly
